Boots? Check. Skis? Check. Wine? Of course.
Austria’s Ski Amadé ski region will combine the joys of skiing, eating and wine drinking from March 14 to March 21 during “Skiing and Wine Enjoyment Week”. The week-long event will take place at 20 different ski lodges in the Ski Amadé area and will feature special menus pairing Austrian wines with dishes made from locally-sourced ingredients.
“Austria’s greatest ski paradise also has outstanding things to offer when it comes to the pleasures of eating and drinking,” the program’s website says. “You can choose your favorite wine from a wide range and drink it with a fine meal, or relax and enjoy your glass on the sunny terrace..”
Each of the 20 ski lodges participating in the wine and food week offer unique menus paired with Austrian wines.
Hotel Bergheimat is scheduled to offer one of the most extensive wine tasting programs this coming March.
Their six-day wine week schedule begins with welcome drinks and a tasting of local honeys on Sunday, March 15. On Monday, the hotel will have a wine tasting with Wein Wolf’s sommelier Reinhard Hager. Tuesday features a skiing day with the hotel’s proprietor. A Prosecco tasting with Andreas Felleis will happen on Wednesday, and on Thursday the hotel will offer a tasting menu paired with wines from the Austria’s Styria region. The region is known for Welschriesling, a wine known for its green-apple bouquet and refreshing taste.
Hotel Oberforsthof is featuring a gourmet dinner at its highly-rated Jagdstube restaurant.
“Preserving Austrian cuisine. Healthy cuisine,” the lodge’s website says of its restaurant. “Of the highest quality. Regional produce. Seasonally appropriate. Exquisitely presented…Pure temptation. For all the senses.”
Oberforsthof’s wine week offer also includes a complimentary bottle of wine week cuveé upon arrival.
Die Ubergossense Alm Alpine Resort and Spa is offering visitors a chance to enjoy a meal in the hotel’s wine cellar, daily recommendations from the hotel’s sommelier and a wine tasting with local Austrian winemakers.
The combination of Austrian skiing, wine and food has been deemed the “Trilogoy of Enjoyment.” According to Ski Amadé’s website, the week is the high point for Austrians who love wines and the slopes.
“Skiing, drinking and enjoying good food keeps the body and soul as one,” the program’s site says. “For this reason, a great deal of importance has been placed on the food (and drink) available for man years now in Ski Amadé.”
